fantastic light fixture

Monday, August 31st, 2009

this is perhaps hands down the most spectacular light fixture i have ever seen. for those who know me well, thats a pretty big statement – as i love lamps and lights. a trait i easily inherited from my mother…midcentury_lamp

this light was available on etsy, but is sadly sold! you can see the listing here in the shop of jawaddel. i first saw it on the blog of jenn ski.

our own vacation squirrel

Wednesday, August 19th, 2009

mostly everyone has seen the photo with the couple vacationing in canada – where the squirrel popped into the photo of them in banf national park.

this reminded me of our own vacation squirrel.  when we were in san fancisco last septemeber for our honeymoon, we were walking through golden gate park, after stopping arizmendi’s (by the way – the best bakery ever). we stopped to take some photos and this squirrel was very interested in us & our food – apparently he heard the good things about arizmendi’s too.

what do you have in this purse….(notice how close this squirrel is to sean’s foot, crazy!)DSCF6736

i have never in my life seen a squirrel get this close to a person…DSCF6740

he was clearly interested in the baked goods!

wedding invitation tip: RSVP date

Monday, August 17th, 2009

a lot of brides ask: what should my RSVP date be?

i always recommend one week prior to the date the caterer gives you for final guest count. this way you have a week for any last minute return cards along with time for phone calls to anyone on your guest list who hasn’t responded yet. this usually ends up being about 3 weeks before your wedding date. but remember, always check with the caterer to know exactly when they need the final number of guests!

ulrich’s tavern – buffalo, ny

this past weekend my hubby and i met friends at ulrich’s in buffalo, ny. ulrich’s is the oldest continuously operating bar/restaurant in buffalo – open for the first time in 1868. delicious german food, best german potato salad and potato pancakes! besides great food – the atmosphere is great, cozy inside, with tons of vintagey charm. the decor is truly a collection of changes and tchotckys from each era through the past 140 years.

bonus: ulrcih‘s was just featured on anthony bourdain’s, no reservations on the travel channel!

graphic design note: i love vintage signs . . . i want to come up with some cool art work showcasing some of the many cool signs seen around buffalo.
